Photos and artwork that capture the imagination and reality of Mumbai!

Marmalade Evenings

Here is a compilation of all the beautiful photographs and art pieces that capture the imagination and reality of Mumbai.

Marmalade Evenings
(By Mehek Pandita)
One evening, after attending a dance battle, my friends and I decided to relax at Versova beach. It was drizzling, so the feeling of discomfort was thankfully a stranger. The sky was dark and cloudy, but the flood lights behind us shone on what life has to offer in Mumbai beyond 9-to-5. So I took out my camera and shot the humans who looked like figments of a world that one wouldn't know existed, until they truly paused to observe.

An Umbrella of Bougainvillaea
(By Mehek Pandita)
This was in front of the Hanging Gardens. I do not believe there is any detailed description besides that I was simply pulled in by this magnanimous bouquet of Bougainvillaea that was protecting a man responsible for protecting others. In a city like Mumbai, which is abundant in a concrete jungle, but not the sentient ones, it was heartwarming to see a burst of colours. Reminded me of my nana-nani's home back in Nashik. Funny how a simple presence of nature can ignite a web of memories, and revive in you a sense of life that this city tends to give and take away from you often.

The Dystopian Dream
(By Mehek Pandita)
This is a multi-layered edit of the Elphinstone flyover in Parel. I had stepped out of work after a tiring day, and I saw the usual traffic waiting to escape the office prison. So I decided to capture it as I was one of those prisoners. But what I captured was not a shot, but rather an imagination that went beyond the lens - a foreboding future that was already playing out. If I were to imagine any city that would fit the post-apocalyptic "aesthetic", it would certainly have to be Mumbai. Through its intoxicating street lights and a park of tall concrete cages, the city constantly reminds you that life is a painful hustle, and the only escape is if you imagine beyond it by romanticising everything.

BEST Bus
(By Muskan Kaur)
Wake Up Sid has romanticised all corners of the city for us, so much so, that we find romance in the simplest of things. Read: even BEST busses. The view of Fort, Bombay, taken from The Asiatic Society of Mumbai, is stunning—especially with a BEST bus on top!

The Taj Mahal Palace
(By Muskan Kaur)
The Taj Mahal Palace, Bombay, stands tall before the Arabian Sea, having seen all the turmoil and all the love that Mumbai has endured, through the years. It’s like the one thing that has never changed, never moved, never winced, despite it all.

Street Stories & Faces of Bombay
(By Ananya Varma)
"Faces of Bombay" is an engaging photo collection that explores Mumbai through its people. Each picture shares a unique story, showing the diverse life in this busy city. From vendors to professionals, the series highlights the rich culture and lively spirit of the city.

Alfaaz
(By Samruddhi Choudhari)
Kuch alfaaz humare tumhare, beh gaye inn samundar ki lehron mein

Tranquility
(Artwork by Rohan Moorthy)
The truth lies within ones heart and mind…seek dear one for you shall find salvation closer than you imagined.

Eyes Of A King
(Artwork by Rohan Moorthy)
His glance is enough to arrest one in their tracks and behold his majesty.

Ask any Mumbaikar, and you’ll hear the same truth: Bombay teaches you to move fast, and it teaches you to slow down — often at the very same time.

At forty-nine, when I think of Bombay, I don’t think of its chaos. I think of moments—the unexpected hand that steadied me, the stranger who shared an umbrella, the commuter who made a joke just when the day felt too heavy. The city never promised comfort. It only promised truth. It never pretended to be gentle. It simply kept showing up. And somewhere along the way, without realising it, I started showing up too.

The constant honking, and the traffic that never seemed to take a break were too much at first. But slowly, everything changed. I made new friends, the kind who made this new life feel lighter and fun. We shared late night talks , endless cup noodles, and stories about home. People around me started feeling familiar, and Mumbai quietly turned into my second home.
